Every Friday after school during the 2nd and 3rd terms volunteer dads come and ‘coach’ soccer on the Cemetry Field with the Grade Rs.  The school has provided the equipment required and for half an hour they receive some coaching followed by a short game.  The opportunity to play soccer at this level benefits the development of the boys in many different ways such as the coordination between eye and foot, the development of special awareness, balance, playing within a team and the building up of fitness through movement and play.  The coaching is done in small groups giving every boy the opportunity of being actively involved throughout the practice.  The level of competition is kept to a minimum in an effort to develop their confidence as this for many is their first experience of team sport.  The emphasis is on ‘fun’ with plenty of encouragement.

The Grade 1 and 2 boys enjoy their soccer practices during the school day in place of Ballskills during the 2nd and 3rd terms.  Playball assist us with these practices.  Each class has a half hour practice period during which the group is coached by two competent coaches.  The school has provided the equipment and there is sufficient to ensure that all the boys are actively involved during these sessions.  Skills are developed with each lesson having an outcome which needs to be achieved.  The rules of soccer are also taught to the boys and they have an opportunity during each lesson to put what has been learnt into practice.
