Dear  Parents

Welcome back to a very busy term, full of fun and exciting activities.  We welcome our three student teachers who will be with us for the next few weeks, Miss Stephen, Miss McLoughlin and Miss Smuts. We hope that they have a wonderful time getting to know our Bishops boys.

Our blanket drive has been a wonderful success and many, many little people and older folk will be blessed with these blankets.  Our first delivery will be to Mowbray maternity hospital.  If you would like to help sew squares together, please pop in and collect a pile.  25 squares make a blanket and one very happy recipient!

Our production The Jungle Book Kids is looking impressive. So much work has gone into organising costumes, make up, props, sets and so much more. Thank you so much to all those who have offered their assistance and who have already worked so hard on this production.

Tickets are on sale every morning at 7.15am in the Art room.  R75 per ticket which includes tea/coffee and a cake at interval.  There are also order forms for DVD copies of the play.  Please collect this form from the art room where the tickets are being sold. Please be advised that children need to sit on their own seats as they will not be permitted to sit on laps.  If you need special access for disabled persons, please chat to Thandi Moyo who will assist in seating you in an appropriate position.

All sport commences on Monday 27th July.  Please be sure to send your son with the correct kit.  Please be reminded that black school shoes are not allowed on the new Astro.  Only regular sports takkies are permitted.

Please take note of the email about chess.  The days have changed slightly so if you have any queries, please contact rharris@bishops.org.za

as she is in charge of chess.

Earlier this year Linda Thompson assessed the hearing and speech skills of the Grade R boys.  The time has come for all those boys, where it was recommended that they be reassessed by Linda Brombacher.  This will not be charged for; however, should you not wish your son to be reassessed kindly inform his Grade R teacher by Monday 1 August 2015.

We require the following items for our production of The Jungle Book Kids. Should you be able to provide any of the items please drop them off this week at our Hall (clearly marked please):

  • Artificial rock for Mowgli to sit on
  • Smaller rocks as part of set
  • Coconuts
  • Big round pot, not higher than 1m, to put next to Louie's throne with fruit
  • Fake fruit
  • Palm leaves
  • Horse riding crop (for Colonel Hathi)
  • Contact for big roll of brown paper to make vines for the set
  • Short Hawaiian grass skirt for Baloo.

Lost Property: Travis Turner has lost his clearly marked cricket bat. Should you have seen it or should your son have inadvertently brought it home, please could you return it to Nicky in the office.

Recycling is back in full swing. We are adding empty boxes of all sizes this term (cereal, toothpaste, medicine etc) Drop off at the boxes in the entrance foyer

A very pertinent comment I came across recently and feel I need to share as it deserves much thought:  Children need to learn to take responsibility for their actions so that they do not become adults believing that nothing is ever their fault.

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!

Yours sincerely,
