7 August 2015

Dear  Parents

The mornings are getting lighter a little earlier and we are very excited to see the sun when it does show its face. Hopefully we will be able to cancel less sport and spend more time outdoors as summer approaches.  Albert Einstein says: Play is the highest form of research and when you work with young children, you can most certainly see the truth in this statement.

We want to introduce you to our newest initiative starting in September.  Bishops Coffee Connections will be hosting our first in a series of short talks for parents.  This will take place from 7.30 - 8.30am in the BSU (here on the campus). Coffee and muffins will welcome you!  Pertinent and topical conversations will be facilitated by wonderful, inspiring presenters.  We have chosen topics that are interesting and useful to parents.  Please diarise our first talk which will be on 4 September. More information to follow in next week’s newsletter.

Well done to our class award winners. Due to escalating costs, all replacement badges will be at a cost of R40.  This is due to an increase in cost from our suppliers.

The event at Paul Greyling (on the first Friday of the term) was freezing cold and there was a slight drizzle but the boys were very enthusiastic!! Most ran with jackets on… Thanks to the Parents for lifting and their support in the miserable weather. Excellent organisation at the event and great camaraderie displayed by our boys. We had 9 participants.

Our production preparations are ending and the excitement is mounting. The Jungle Book Kids is nearly ready and we are so proud of all the boys and their hard work. Mrs Swanich and Tam Spiers have put in loads of work and we cannot wait for the opening night.

If you still need to order the DVD, forms are available at the Pre-prep office.  There are still a few tickets remaining. Please email Thandi Moyo on thandimoyo@mweb.co.za  - Thursday, 13 August is the cut-off for all ticket and DVD purchases.

Thank you to all the boys that have had neat haircuts and are wearing their uniforms with pride.  Please be reminded to bring the correct kit for sport, especially gum guards for hockey.  Boys may put their tracksuits on for sport if it is particularly cold.  Marked clothing always finds its way back to its owner so it is worth spending a few minutes clearly marking all items of clothing (including sports kit and shoes)

Lost Property: Akshay Thakersee is unable to find his hockey kit which was in his bag on Wednesday, 5 Aug. Should anyone have inadvertently taken this home please return it to either Ms Fry or Nicky in the office.

If you do not yet have a MY SCHOOL card, please follow the link to our website at the top of the page and you can access the application forms.

We continue our Recycling collection.  Please, any toothpaste boxes, cereal boxes or 2litre ice cream containers are all welcome.  They can be dropped off in the large plastic container in the foyer.

Richard L Evans says:  Children will not remember you for the material things you provided, but for the feeling that you cherished them. Such true words and what better time to spend with our children, than a long weekend ahead!  Wishing you all a wonderful family time and if you are travelling, may you stay safe on the roads.

Yours sincerely,
