Dear  Parents

Welcome back to all our boys and parents - particularly to the two new families who have joined us.  We extend a special warm welcome to you and trust that you have settled in well.  There was a flurry of excitement at the start of this term - we welcomed Mrs Rose Harris back after her long leave and hosted our first Coffee Connections this morning.  Thank you to Mrs Jane Durham, our resident Occupational Therapist for giving some interesting insight into our Muscle Mania programme which is done in Grade R.

Bishops has embarked on a project to control the feral cat population on our grounds.  We are presently feeding 13 cats, all of whom will be sterilised/neutered, a few at a time.  At the minute, the programme is going well and we are able to manage it well.  We have two cats that feed at our feeding station at the Pre Prep and we have been asked to take this on as one of our projects.  Our Pre Prep will therefore be having a civvies day on Wednesday 28 May (just before the long weekend).  Payment for wearing civvies will be a monetary donation (R10 or more) or a bag of cat/dog pellets.  We will use the cat pellets to support our feline project and the dog pellets will be donated to a suitable animal welfare.  Sport clothing will need to be sent to school for boys to change into for afternoon sport on this day.

The first of our Saturday tag days will be on 13 May from 8 - 9 am.  This is open to both Grade 1 and 2 boys who are able to join us and they will play in combined teams on that morning.

All afternoon sport starts on Monday and will run from 24 April to 23 June.  Morning sport takes place throughout the term dates.  We are still suggesting that boys come in their sport clothing to school, to alleviate extra washing in an endeavour to save water.  Tracksuits are to be worn over their kit as it is quite cold in the mornings (top and pants) together with white takkies and socks.  Please check that all items are clearly marked, particularly if you have purchased from the second hand shop as often names are not adjusted on the purchased items.

Things are well underway.  A form went out yesterday to grade 1 and 2 parents asking for some support.  Please can you respond by Wednesday - every bit of help is very much appreciated.  For further enquiries about the play, you may contact Mrs Swanich at dswanich@bishops.org.za

Loving maths will commence on Tuesday morning at 07:15 in the library.  It is for Grade 2 boys and the forms to register will be given to the boys at the first lesson.  Please be a little early on the first day so as not to miss out.

Runs daily from after school until 5pm Monday - Thursday and until 4.30pm on a Friday.  Enquiries to crheeder@bishops.org.za

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.  Next week is a short week as we head into the long weekend so there will not be a newsletter.  School will commence again on Tuesday 2 May.  Thank you to those of you who are knitting squares for our blanket drive!  For those new to this community initiative, we knit squares (double knit wool, size 4 needles, 60 rows to make a square) 25 squares make a small blanket. These are donated to very needy and cold children in our community.  The picture below are some of the recipients of our last donation.

Yours sincerely,

Head of Pre-Prep
