13 October 2017

Dear Parents

Welcome back to this busy, but fun filled term.  This is an extremely short term with much happening.  Today was the College Prize Giving and Valedictory. Huge congratulations to Tim Sharples who was elected as Head Boy for 2018.

We are excited to announce some staff changes for 2018.  Ms Laurelle Fry will be moving across to teach Grade 3 and Mrs Cindy Anstey will join us in the Grade 2 position.  Mrs Anstey will head up our Sport Department which is increasing at a rapid rate!  Mrs Rose Harris will be moving to Grade R to take Ms Carron Merrick's position, and Mrs Merrick will join the Grade 1 teachers next year. We wish them well as they plan for the new year and their new challenges ahead.  We are delighted to welcome Mrs Carmen van Zyl back in 2018 as well.

We are slowly making Grade 2 boys more aware of things and happenings at the Prep school.  This term they will have a series of "playdates" with the present Grade 3 boys at the Prep, where they will have opportunities to ask questions, have a guided tour and make some connections with the boys to make their transition easier.  These will take place over a period of a few weeks so if your son speaks about his visit to the Prep, you will understand what he is referring to.  On 27 October, parents will have an opportunity to come and ask questions as well, at our Friday morning Coffee Connections at 7.30 a.m.  We will have Mr Brown, Mr Riches, Mr Groom, Mrs McDonald and Mrs Harrod there to answer any queries you may have around the move from Grade 2 to Grade 3.   Please come along to meet them and to hear a little more about the next chapter in your sons' school life.

All afternoon sport will start on Monday 16 October and finish on Friday 24 November.  Please can I ask that you complete the google sign up form that was sent to you to confirm your online booking.  This enables us to make sure we have enough coaches for the number of boys attending each sport.

On Monday morning, all boys in Grade 1 and 2 will attend Bishops Praise (except Grade 1V who will be on an outing) - however, please ensure that boys are in their summer khaki uniforms with a blue school jersey in their bag (or wearing them).  We are fully into summer uniforms now.  Should any of you have old black school shoes or summer brown sandals that no longer fit your boys, please can you send them along to the office and we will distribute them to schools where children do not have school shoes to wear.

Bishops Trust:  Update

Friday Pizza's:  No further orders accepted after today.

Our interns - Ms Tshabalala; Ms de Klerk and Ms Meyer as well as Ms Felmore, our art teacher, will all be writing exams this last term.  We wish them well and trust that they will be very successful.

Please may I remind you that very careful consideration is taken when dividing classes and although no requests for teachers are considered, we do seriously look at the balancing of classes for the maximum benefit of the boys.  Friends are not a consideration for these divisions.  Thank you for trusting us to make the best decision when making splits.

Please contact Catherine Rheeder for any enquiries related to Aftercare.  The Aftercare telephone number is:  021  659 1003.

Samuel Huntingford Gr R (Mrs Cale) mislaid his wet bag while at aftercare yesterday.  Please could you check whether your son may have inadvertently brought the bag home.

Please remind your boys to always wear their hats. The sun is hot and we are really trying to make them aware of the dangers of exposure to the sun.  Extra water is also a good idea to have in their bags.

Should you be happy to provide flowers or a pretty plant for the school foyer on a Monday, please contact Helen Harvey

Wishing you a sunny and restful weekend.

Yours sincerely,

Head of Pre-Prep
