Dear  Parents

Welcome back after a lovely long weekend.  We hope that you all had a chance to revive and get ready for the second part of a busy term.  Angela Schwindt commented "While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about." I trust that this past weekend was filled with moments like this, where you learnt valuable life lessons from these very precious little people in your world.

We are ending our blanket drive for this year.   Thank you so much for all the squares that are still being delivered.  We are going to end off our collection at the end of this week so perhaps keep knitting and stocking up to send when we collect again next winter.  We would like to congratulate the following winners of the class challenge!

1st position:  Mrs Fraser's class with over 3 000 squares collected.

2nd position: Mrs Osborne's class with over 2 000 squares collected.

We have had such an overwhelming response from the rest of the Pre Prep, that all the boys were rewarded today for their generosity and consideration towards others.  We have already sent blankets to Mowbray Maternity Hospital and to some of the rural creche's in the surrounding area via Little Libraries.  You may visit their facebook page to follow our deliveries and read the heartwarming stories they share..  https://www.facebook.com/Littlelibraries 45 more blankets were collected today for another drop off.

Once again, a reminder that no boys may be left unsupervised at any time.  Therefore if your son has forgotten some item of his sports kit, he will sit with me while the rest of the boys are on the field. This is purely for security purposes.  Sport will continue during the week of the production but should you feel that your son needs the time to rest, please feel free to keep him at home (not left at aftercare).  In this case, please can we ask that you let the coach/teacher in charge know.

Boys leaving aftercare are reminded to make sure that they have their school shoes and socks on their feet when leaving the school building in their brown school uniform.  Tackies and socks should be worn with whites.  This is not a new rule but sometimes the boys need to be reminded. Signing out when you collect your children from Aftercare is of the utmost importance.  The supervisors are not permitted to sign children out or walk them to the door/front steps for you to collect.

20 August 2015 Emma Sadleir - social and media expert talk at Bishops Prep - 19:00 This should be a very informative talk and one worth attending.
25 - 28 August 2015 Pre Prep Production takes place .

Please refer carefully to the email sent out today regarding the full cast/makeup and dress rehearsal tomorrow morning. This is a compulsory rehearsal so please do not put your son under pressure by asking if he can be excused as he will be missing out on confidence building opportunities for the final shows and this really makes it difficult for those around him, as they always seem to have someone missing. Your support and respect in this regard, would be most appreciated. Please do not send any food along as this really complicates matters and the boys are not allowed to eat when dressed in their costumes. There are still a few tickets available for the some of the shows so Thandi has kindly offered to be available on Monday morning (in the art room) for the last few bookings.

Lost Property: Luc Schluter lost his green gumguard (marked L Schluter) at Hockey practice on Wednesday. He arrived home with the empty container. Please could you check whether your son may have inadvertently brought this item home.

The week of the play will be both challenging and exhilarating. As we all know, children respond best when routines are in place.  We therefore wish to keep the school day as normal as possible, continuing with any extra mural activities and routines. School times will run as usual with classes open from 7.30 although there will be flexibility around drop off times on Wednesday and Thursday morning only. If you feel your son needs to sleep a little longer, you may bring him in a little later than usual.  Lessons will start at 09:00 so he needs to be here by then. There will still be homework (perhaps not as much)   The less change in their day, the better the boys respond.

Update on Coffee Connections:  Our first guest speaker will be Linda Brombacher (Speech and Language Therapist). She will address the importance of reading to your child in a way which develops language skills for learning.  Please keep this date open ( 4 September @ 7.30 - 8.30am) as she will share some very important and useful ideas.

Yours sincerely,
