Dear  Parents

It is hard to believe that we are already six weeks into the second term. So much has been accomplished and there are so many more exciting things to happen!  Those boys and parents that have been bitten by the knitting bug, are growing daily.  We are immensely proud of the number of squares being delivered on a daily basis so if you have not yet got going, now is a good time to start.  Tasneem Arnold (one of our Grade R mums) has been very instrumental in driving this initiative.  She is often available in the foyer selling her wool and needles and encouraging those who need some encouragement.  Do not forget the inter class competition that is happening.  The class that collects the most squares is in for a big treat so keep going!

The Grade One boys have been doing their first oral presentations this week.  It has been so exciting to see their enthusiasm and pride when presenting their particular animal.  Well done to all the boys!

Congratulations to Akshay Thakersee who did exceptionally well to receive a bronze medal for Chess. He has been awarded Western Cape colours to represent the Western Cape at the South African School Championships in July. Congratulations go to James Gordon as well for winning a silver medal at a motocross competition last weekend.

Some of our Grade 2 Judo boys participated in a match against St Georges Grammar School. Bishops were the final winners - well done to all the boys who competed.

There was a fabulous turnout at the cross country event last week.  The top 5 under 7 boys were Reve Tuscher; John van den Heever; James Kilkenny; Michael Mafunda and Sam Bey.  Well done to the other boys who ran in this race and a special mention to Odin Aspinall who took a tumble and got up and kept going! In the under 8 race, the top 5 Bishops runners were Rowan Piorkowski; Noah Edmunds; Connor Day; Cameron Joubert and Sebastian von Bormann. Well done to all the other under 8 runners as well.  It is wonderful to see so many boys participating.

A reminder that if sport is cancelled due to rain, there will be an sms sent out but there will also be supervision in one of the classrooms for the normal practise time.  Please remember to excuse boys if they are not going to be there.

There have been many staff and boys sick over the past few weeks and we wish them all a speedy recovery.  While we understand that occasionally doctor appointments may need to be during school hours, this makes it extremely disruptive for both the boys and the rest of the class. Please understand that school time is mostly key instructional time and there are not "worksheets" that can be sent home to catch up with work that has been missed.  Often new concepts are not well established and in fact were taught when boys were taken out of class for some or other reason. On their return they find out that they have missed out on teaching and this often makes them feel very uncomfortable. Please may we ask that such appointments be made in the afternoons and only in cases of emergency, in the mornings? Thank you for your understanding.

Should you need to deliver an item to your son during the school day please note that you need to hand these items in at the office. The item will be delivered to your son's classroom. It is too disruptive to have parents visiting classrooms during the school day.

Lost PropertyDavid Tripe has mislaid three of his school hats - all clearly marked. Please could you check whether your son has not perhaps inadvertently taken one of them home?

Please make sure that you have filled in the online form to indicate your assistance for the upcoming drama production.  An email was sent out to all parents with the link.  You simply need to follow the link and fill in the details.  This link will only be active until Monday morning so please be sure to take a look.
