Dear  Parents

Now that we are finding our feet and starting to have the opportunity to beautify our school again, opportunities for parents to help have once again arisen. Many parents are working and not able to help during the day so there are some opportunities for everyone!

  • To become involved in the Tuesday morning drop off of sandwiches to Athwood Primary, please contact Nisreen Abrahams nabrahams@sovereignsa.co.za
  • To be on the roster to provide a display of flowers or a pretty plant for the school foyer on a Monday, please contact Helen Harvey helenharvey1404@gmail.com
  • To help serve Pizza to the boys on a Friday during the morning, please contact Roly Prestage roly@kovco.co.za

Valentine’s Day at the Pre Prep takes on a rather different format.  We use it as a wonderful opportunity to display "love" for others.  This year, in order to qualify to wear red and white clothes to school, we will be asking boys to bring one (or more) roll on deodorants to school.  These will be distributed to surrounding schools who have now implemented a Phys Ed Programme back into their school day.  Their pupils are in desperate need of some kind of deodorant to use after these lessons. We will set up collection points but you can stock up on deodorants in the meantime.

We are also collecting any old school bags/backpacks/kit bags that you may have at home.  There are some children going to school with their books in plastic bags.  We would like to be able to offer them a bag of some sort in which to carry their belongings.  This all forms part of our outreach to those less fortunate than we are.  Please do not feel pressure to support all our collections but choose those that appeal to you and your family.  Your kind donations are so appreciated.

The calendar indicates a Prep Sports Day.  Please be advised that any boys who will be running in this event will be individually notified by Ms Carron Merrick.  If you are not notified, then you are not required to be present at this meeting.  If you would like to come along to watch and support those running, please feel free to do so.

Grade R has been learning about Fireman Fred this week.  Many exciting activities have taken place and games played. The boys enjoyed a visit to the Chapel this morning and will probably talk about being caught in the much needed rain on the way back.  The boys have settled well and are really enjoying the new equipment in the garden.

What a happy bunch of little people.  I am sure they are exhausted by the time they get home, as the activity level in their area during the morning is extensive!   We still need a baby bath and some more little clothing/blankets/prams.  If there is anyone who has some old hats, please drop them off as well.

The art room in Grade N thanks all parents for their regular drop off of boxes, toilet rolls etc.  This week they would like to focus on empty tins (with safely removed lids).  Please no spikes or sharp bits that can hurt the boys.  Larger tins are even more welcome!  Ice cream containers with lids are always useful too.

Please parents, be vigilant when leaving your cars in the parking areas.  Make sure that your car has actually locked before walking away.  Car jamming is common in parking areas and leaving your belongings in your car, can be a temptation.

Thank you to those parents who have agreed to be class reps.  Should you be unsure of who your rep is, please contact your class teacher.

For those who are unsure still, Mrs Truus Grater is teaching in the place of Mrs Rose Harris this term.  Her email address is tgrater@bishops.org.za   Similarly Mrs Terry Rudston is teaching for Mrs Fraser until the end of Term 2.  Her address is trudston@bishops.org.za

For any enquiries please contact crheeder@bishops.org.za

All parents are welcome to visit the classrooms on a Friday.  Grade 1 and 2 parents, please allow boys to carry their own bags and enter the locker rooms and classrooms on their own.  Thank you to those parents who have in fact responded to this request.  We really appreciate your support in developing independence in the boys.

I understand that our policy around the sharing of information has been frustrating.  Thank you to all those who have respected our decision.

Kindly follow the link for a very important communique from the Principal regarding sport.  Here is the link.  It is a very important document, so please do read it.

Wishing you a fabulous weekend!

Yours sincerely,
