17 March 2017

Dear  Parents

We hope to see many of you at the carnival this evening. It is a wonderful way to end off a busy week and start a long weekend. The horrible fire in Hout Bay has been a huge concern and the sympathy for those who have suffered has been sincere. We have made our school available as a drop off point for any donations. One of our mums very kindly collects the goodies and makes sure they get to where they need to be. Our extra sandwiches this week made an immense difference and allowed the excess to be sent to feed those affected by the fire.

Today is Founders Day and indeed a reason to celebrate at the Pre Prep. Bishops has a rich, proud history and today we were delighted to welcome Mrs Noell Andrews back, to come and tell us some of the exciting history of Bishops. Mrs Noell Andrews spent many years as head of the Pre Prep and had the boys mesmerised with her stories about Bishops.

Advocate Thuli Madonsela was the guest speaker at the ODU dinner last night. Yesterday, she took time out of her busy schedule to visit us at the Pre Prep. She was able to walk through our whole school and interact with both boys and their teachers. Advocate Madonsela had the most positive things to say about our school, our boys and that for which we stand. It was wonderful to be able to interact with her and tell her what wonderful children and parents we have here at Bishops.

I will be sending out the new Winter sport choice forms next week. There is not much change from last year so you have a rough idea of what is on offer.

Our runners participated in their last race this term, the Pentangular at Rondebosch. Well done to all who participated. We are immensely proud of your effort this season.

Please note that an application of fertilizer, fungicide and pesticides will be applied to all Turfgrass during the school holidays. Once again, please take safety precautions with regards to children and pets by allowing the application ample time to be absorbed into the leaf.

Parents parking at the new area on Sandown Road, please be cautious and make sure you lock your car and leave your possessions tucked away and out of sight. Opportunists are continually looking for items that are easily accessible.

Our three teacher assistants in Grade N attended a two day Early Childhood Development conference. This was a wonderful time of learning for them and they are full of great new ideas and inspiration. Two of the Grade N teachers, Ms Stuart and Ms Wright will also be attending a conference in the North West Province during the holidays and we trust that this will be a great time of learning and sharing.

Please do not forget our fun sports day in the last week of term. Sadly, I have once again been inundated with requests to leave school a few days early. Boys leaving early will sadly not be able to attend or participate in this wonderful school event. Please be reminded of our request to book holidays within our school calendar dates unless there is an unavoidable situation. Thank you for your understanding in this regard.

Wishing you all a wonderful long weekend.

Yours sincerely,
